This Nation and God
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
(Isaiah 55:8-9)
I believe the above scripture should be deeply embedded in our hearts and minds as a people of God living in this nation at such a time as this.
Let's think about our personal lives for a moment. There are so many things that have not always turned out the way we planned them to be. You worked hard but did not qualify for university admission. You were engaged to get married but it did not materialize. Your child sat for his or her KCPE or KCSE and did not make the required grades for your preferred high school or university. You had hoped for a promotion at work but that did not come through. You prayed for your loved one to be healed but he or she died. You began a business but it did not come through. The list goes on and on.
In thinking about the things in your life that did not work out, an honest evaluation brings to mind, I believe the following scriptures:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21
There is a way God has led you along His chosen path, it may have been different, sometimes riddled with pain, but in retrospect, you are grateful to Him that He led you thus. And if you are still at that place where you have not figured out yet the "whys" please write me at least five years from now with a testimony of how Romans 8:28 is still in scripture.
And for this nation, we have to believe that the Lord God Almighty to whom we have all been running to during this election season has established His purpose. None of us is God and we can never fully understand why our preferred candidates did not make it to the slots we had hoped they would fill, but as children of God we must determine in our hearts that God in His Sovereignty has caused His purpose to prevail. And for me, even if there would be a run-off and someone else wins, I would still say, "God is sovereign, He knows the end from the beginning, He is God, He is the Sole Determinant of the nation's destiny."
Going back to Isaiah 55:8-9: God's thoughts and ways are higher than ours for we are mortal beings. In moving forward as a nation we need to constantly remember this truth. It will set us free from so much heartache. We cannot afford to taunt both the winners and the losers - now some of us our preferred candidates did not even hit the 100,000 mark - we must, embrace the results, and move on. We must begin to ask ourselves, "What is God's purpose, especially in this year of Jubilee, and the subsequent years, that we must fulfill, collectively as a people, and as individuals?" We must begin to ask God to adjust our thoughts and hearts to His perfect way, His perfect purposes, and adjust our lives accordingly. We must also understand that God has privileged us to live at such a time as this when the church is experiencing a great upheaval and God's divine restoration.
Friends, we have a great opportunity to partner with God in this new dispensation. We should not be so blinded by our loss or victory that we miss out on what God has for us as a people. We stand on the verge of great things and the sooner we move from mud-slinging and feeling deprived (not sure of what), the better for us. Remember, this nation is God's and He has good plans for this nation, but He needs us to partner with Him in order to accomplish these plans. Let us then surrender or abandon our ways and pursue His. We will be amazed at how He works out things.
God bless us, God bless Kenya. Amen.
