Our Faith must be in God, and God alone!
I felt the deep need to write this following people's comments and expectations even as the election campaigns were going on and the subsequent elections and results.
Kenyan Christians: Our hope and trust must remain in the Living God. We must never deceive ourselves that having systems in place and the "right" people in office take the place of God. Nothing and no-one can ever take the place of God. We are not alive because of a policy but because of God's will. Instead we must believe in the Sovereign God to lead and direct us to make the right decisions in order to build the nation.
The Bible warns us against us putting our trust in man. Read the entire Bible, cover to cover, any time the people's hearts moved away from God there were consequences. As I listen to the discussions and comments, there are those who are so fearful of sanctions by the Western world and for me, I choose to believe that in this year of Jubilee, we shall be set free from donor-mentality. Look around us. We have resources that we can tap in. I wish we could educate ourselves on the long-term consequences of depending on foreign aid and begin to ask ourselves, "How can we as Kenyans exercise our liberty by tapping into our resources and equitably distributing these resources?"
This scripture should keep us sober at all times:
Do not put your trust in princes,
in human beings, who cannot save.When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. (Psalm 146:3-5)
It is only by putting our trust in God that we will prosper as a nation. Why should we trust Him?
He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
he remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. (Psalm 146:6-9)
Friends, the moment we allow fear to hold us back, the Jubilee season will be a mere word on our lips. We've got to believe that in all these happenings God is saying something to us. I sincerely believe that everything was orchestrated by God: from having the elections pushed from December 2012 to March 2013 when as the Church we took the lead to usher in the Jubilee (God's season ... for clarity's sake) to the current moment and every other day as Christ tarries.
Faith avails much and so let us not give up on the destiny of this nation. We belong to God. We are in God's hands. So let us cast off fear and anxiety and forge ahead in hope; trusting that the Lord God Almighty reigns and that He will lead us through this new dawn as a nation.
Our faith must only be in God. In God alone. Amen.
